Alright we dug around in the comedy section this time and found a gem. This was also Time Curry’s birthday this week. So to celebrate we found Clue. Never heard of it? Just thought it was cheesy looking? Wouldn’t even buy it from the $5 bin at Walmart?
Well fret not. It’s streaming on Netflix and is certainly entertaining. As guests gather at a mansion it is brought to their attention that they are each being blackmailed by the same person. Just like the board game of the same name you have the lead pipe, the rope, the revolver and the wrench. In the lounge, the library and the front hall people die.
The exploration of the house is slapstick and characters are fun. It’s exactly like we imagine a good murder mystery dinner party would be.
But the best part of the movie is the end when Wadsworth (Tim Curry) thinks he knows who did it and reenacts the crimes running through the house in a frantic pace dragging the remaining guests with him.
A special side note. When this movie was released in theaters in 1985 theaters were given three different endings. When you watch the movie now on TV or DVD it shows all three endings in a row. With the first two being possibilities and the third being the ‘real’ one. But in theaters you would have only seen one of those endings and a buddy could have seen a different ending in his theater. Which to us is a cool way to get people talking about what they saw and bringing them back for me.
