Joseph Gordon-Levitt and I are not on a first name basis. But I like to think of myself close enough that we’re on an initials basis.
Jeff and I have a bet currently going on. The bet being Jeff does not think JGL can cut it as a leading man.
I disagree. His character of Arthur in Inception was the turning point for me. He pulled off the action stunts in a suit without breaking a sweat flawlessly. The hotel spinning scene stole it for me and has my vote for the best action scene in the whole movie. I wish I could pull off looking this good in a suit.
Now this is by no means my intro to JGL. 3rd Rock from the Sun was mine and probably most people’s introduction to him. Playing an old alien stuck in a teenage body made for great comedy and I am sure I could watch any episode today and get a chuckle.
Even then I was jealous. I wanted my long hair to look as good as his.
In between 3rd Rock and Inception the only time I honestly saw him was in 500 Days of Summer. Here he played the love struck guy perfectly for me. In fact, without ruining the ending for anyone, I completely called the name of the girl in the end of the movie. For me this movie was a love story true to life.
So in a TV series that spanned 130+ episodes, an small romance movie called 500 days and a blockbuster in Inception I think JGL has developed the talent to pull off the leading man role. Comedy, romance, action.
We made this bet weeks ago. Unfortunately we didn’t have the terms of the bet laid out necessarily. What makes a successful leading man movie? Number 1 opening weekend? Break record? Good reviews?
Posh. Whatever. Opening weekend has happened and I think I won. While not 1st Looper did rake in $21 million for a decent 2nd place. And the buzz on the social media networks are all positive. Now I just need to get my butt out to see it.
Jeff owes me a Blue Moon.

About Steve Mastin
After hitting the 30 mark Steve realized he needed to cut back on the amount of stunt work he was doing for Jeff. So he spends more time binge watching TV on Netflix then rolling off cars now. Still in love with creating movies, writing and entertainment Steve will never say no to Jeff. Add a wonderful wife, 2 cute kids and round it out with a black coffee.
